FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
14 June 2006
Take a gruelling 100-day expedition traversing one of the earth’s most dangerous and environmentally challenged regions. Mix in 14 million sq kilometres of rapidly melting sea ice, 16 Inuit sled dogs, 4 polar adventurers, 3 hungry polar bears, 2.5 tonnes of expedition gear, 5 pairs of snapped ski’s, 6000 photos, 45 kg of chocolate, 2 world records and 1 important message
And there you have the results of Adventure Ecology’s first field expedition across the ‘Top of the World’
After 1500 kilometres and 100 days in the Arctic, all of the Adventure Ecology, Top of the World Arctic expedition team members have finally made their way home safely after being forced to escape the rapidly deteriorating sea ice.
"It’s probably fair to say that Climate change was responsible for cutting short Adventure Ecology’s first mission but in no way has this cut short the important message we have worked so hard to deliver and will continue to deliver."

Since launching Mission 1 three months ago – the first of five such Missions planned over the next three years, Adventure Ecology, has not only received almost 2 million hits on it’s website www.adventureecology.com, but it has received an unprecedented amount of letters and messages of support from all around the world, all of which not only helped inspire the team to reach the North Pole and beyond but it has also reconfirmed the importance for Adventure Ecology to keep pushing forward with its work and the ‘mission possible’ campaign against climate change.
"Now we have made it back home safely the real mission begins - communicating what we have seen and more importantly promoting the small everyday actions that can turn individuals away from being part of the problem and move them into becoming part of the solution. It’s crystal clear in my mind what I left behind is a rapidly dying ecosystem. Over the last 100 days I’ve had the unique privilege to call the Arctic Ocean my home. This opportunity has given me a first hand glimpse at the truly devastating effects of global warming and climate change. It's fair to say that most eco systems are usually very capable of maintaining themselves but like everything in life there is always a breaking point when you push things too far, the same applies to the Arctic."
